Tumblr is expanding its tip jar feature by introducing another way for users to send direct tips to bloggers. The tip jar feature, which launched last month, allows bloggers to receive one-time payments from their supporters. After today’s expansion, users can not only send tips for a specific post, but also leave tips at the blog level to show their love for the entire blog of their favorite creators.
February 25, 2022: New ad-free subscription
Tumblr has launched a new ad-free subscription that allows users to remove advertisements from the platform for $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year (with a 33% discount). Those who pay the subscription will no longer see advertisements when browsing blogs and posts, while users who don’t want to pay can still continue using the app for free with ads. To remove advertisements, users can navigate to their account settings and press the “go ad-free” button.
February 10, 2022: A tip jar feature for bloggers
Tumblr is rolling out a monetization feature called “Tumblr Tips” in the U.S. and soon globally, which will let bloggers receive one-time payments from their supporters. When users tip a creator, they can write a note alongside the tip. Anonymous tips are allowed, but in that case, the tipper wouldn’t be able to leave a message. Fans can send tips of up to $100 each and Tumblr won’t take a cut from these payments.
It’s Tumblr’s second attempt at a monetization feature today. The ability to tip may help onboard creators and their fans onto the subscription service, where Tumblr will earn a 5% commission.

Audio: A piece of audio files can be uploaded with MP3 format only. You can use local files or external links. Descriptions can be added.

Video: Videos can be embedded from all kinds of video websites, or you can just enter YouTube or Vimeo address link. Local videos can also be uploaded.
